Was Albert Einstein wrong with quantum physics?

New Delhi:

Not often scientists say that Albert Einstein is wrong, isn’t it?

Physicists on Wednesday announced the results of their global experiment which contradicts the theories of eminent scientist Einstein. The experiment was conducted with the help of 1,00,000 volunteer’s gamers and more than 97 million data users, all selected randomly.

Twelve teams of scientists in ten countries conducted the deep analysis and concluded strong theories which violated the local realism principle of Albert Einstein.

There are many interesting features in quantum mechanics and the most classical one is entanglement- that describes the particles are strangely linked, regardless of the distance between them. The group of European researchers have managed to entangle not only a pair of particles but also separate clouds of numerous atoms.

When particles are entangled they share properties in a way which actually makes them dependent on each other, despite being separated by large distances. Albert Einstein famously referred entanglement as “spooky action at a distance”, as modifying one particle in an entangled pair impacts the twin– regardless of the distance.

Professor Morgan Mitchell of the Institute of Photonic Sciences in Spain, the co-author of the study, while talking to Live Science said that the ground-breaking experiment contradicted Einstein’s local realism.

‘’We showed that Einstein’s world-view of local realism, in which things have properties whether or not you observe them, and no influence travels faster than light, cannot be true — at least one of those things must be false," Morgan Mitchell told Live Science.

The study was published in journal Nature.
