British theoretical physicist, cosmologist, and scientist Stephen Hawking passed away in the early hours on Wednesday morning at his celestial house in Cambridge.

A statement released by the late scientist’s children, Lucy, Robert, and Tim, read, “We are deeply saddened that our beloved father passed away today. He was a great scientist and an extraordinary man whose work and legacy will live on for many years. His courage and persistence with his brilliance and humour inspired people across the world. He once said, 'It would not be much of a universe if it wasn't home to the people you love.' We will miss him forever."

Hawking, nicknamed ‘Einstein’, was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, at an early age of 21, and the doctors had announced that he could live just for a few more years, but amazement was that he passed away at an exceptional age of 70.
