Take a look at the first image captured from space by ISRO’s Cartosat-2 satellite

India’s recently launched weather observation Cartosat-2 series satellite by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) captured the first day image of Indore city in Madhya Pradesh.

The image was acquired by the ISRO team on January 15, three days after the launch of the satellite. The photo was released on Wednesday on the website of the ISRO.

Cartosat-2 series satellite was successfully launched on January 12, with onboard PSLV-C40 rocket, from ISRO’s spaceport at Sriharikota, 110 km from Chennai.

ISRO then said, “The satellite would be brought to its final operational configuration in the next few days following which it will begin to provide high-resolution scene specific spot imageries using its panchromatic (black and white) and multi spectral (colour) cameras.”

Cartosat-2 is an advanced remote sensing satellite which has similar configurations as earlier six spacecrafts in the series and intent to expand data services to the users.

The images sent by the satellite will be useful for cartographic, urban and rural applications, coastal land use and regulations apart from Geographical Information System applications among others.

30 other satellites, including 28 of them from foreign countries, were also successfully launched by PSL C-40 onboard.
