Sturgeon Moon 2019: All you need to know about August Full Moon

The Sturgeon Moon, also known as the Full Moon, will peak later this week (August) when its Earth-facing side is fully lit up by the Sun. Here in India, this will occur at 5:59 pm and 1:29 pm BST the UK. The Sturgeon Moon is the eighth Full Moon of the year and comes one month after the beautiful July Buck Moo. In fact, every full moon for the 12 months of the year, have a name attached to it, signifying changing seasons.

What is the Sturgeon Moon?

Throughout the year, there are 12 Full Moons, and each one has its own and unique name. These are in with the exception of a rare Blue Moon. For example, the May Full Moon is known as the Strawberry Moon after strawberries ripening in the wild.

In December, the Full Moon is called the Cold Moon because of the chilling temperatures and wintry weather. Most of these names were adopted by colonial Europeans from the many Native American tribes living along the eastern edge of modern-day America.
