Imagine the horrors of knowing that you are actually dying. While the debate surrounding death remains one of the most discussed to date, a study claims that your consciousness carries on functioning after your heart stops beating, meaning you will know that you are dying just as one does when having a horrible nightmare. The study claim that survivors of cardiac arrest were aware of what was going on around them while they were 'dead' before being 'brought back to life'.
Dr Sam Parnia who studies consciousness after death and examining cardiac arrest cases in Europe and the US says that people in the first phase of death may still experience some form of consciousness.
"They'll describe watching doctors and nurses working, they'll describe having awareness of full conversations, of visual things that were going on, that would otherwise not be known to them’’ Dr. Parnia recalling on people who were resuscitated after survived cardiac arrest said.
"It's all based on the moment when the heart stops.
"Technically speaking, that's how you get the time of death’’ he further added.
Dr. Parnai is examining what happens to the brain after a person goes into cardiac arrest - and whether consciousness continues after death. He hopes that his research will improve the quality of resuscitation and try to stop brain injuries incurred when restarting someone's heart.
