European football super-giants FC Barcelona and Juventus FC will lock horns at Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium on April 27. This will be the first time in Asian soil that the footballing mega clubs will go head to head against each other.
But its not the current lot of stars who will participate in the clash, but the legends who entertained the globe during their playing days.
Some legends of the game, like 1998 World Cup winner David Trezeguet of France, 2006 World Cup winner Mauro Camoranesi of Italy, his then teammate Gianluca Zambrotta and 1994 Champions League winner with the iconic glasses Edgar Davids of Netherlands will don Juventus jersey once again.
Whereas for FC Barcelona legends, World Cup star Andoni Goicoetxea of Spain, Frank de Boer, Juan Carlos Rodriguez, Jose Edmilsion, Gudjohnsen will lock horns with Juventus legends.
Kaushik Moulik of Football Next Foundation, the main man behind bringing the giants together on Wednesday said that the legend’s matches that the European clubs play are not like exhibition matches but played with all seriousness and pace akin to the younger lot.
He added that the team will send 20 legends to participate in coaching camps to promote the sport in the country apart from playing the match during their four-day visit to Mumbai from April 24.
“The European clubs look at not just football but also develop it as a sport. India as a nation should transform from viewers nation to playing nation,” Moulik said.
Moulik, who had brought Bayern Munich legends to Kolkata to play against East Bengal in 2010 and termed the match as “celebration of football.” He had visited Barcelona last week to finalise the match, brought a Lionel Messi signed Barcelona jersey and presented it to Vijay Patil, president of DY Patil Sports Academy.
“Messi said he loves India, he loves Mumbai. He is super excited to hear that his club’s legends will play Juventus legends on April 27 in Mumbai,” said Moulik.
The tickets will go on sale for the clash of giants on digital platforms from Thursday and are priced from Rs 500 to Rs 1,500.
