Rohit Sharma needs to hit two sixes to break Sachin Tendulkar's ODI record.

New Delhi:

Rohit Sharma, along with Virat Kohli, were the stars in India’s magnificent eight-wicket win against West Indies in Barsapara. While Kohli hit his 36th century, Rohit dazzled the Guwahati crowd with a magnificent, unbeaten 152.

This knock was not only Rohit’s 20th century, but it was his sixth score of 150+ in ODIs, a new record in the format beating the previous mark of five by Sachin Tendulkar and David Warner.

Ahead of the Vizag ODI, Rohit is on course to break yet another record held by Tendulkar. The right-hander, who has hit 194 sixes in 189 ODIs, needs to hit two sixes to break Tendulkar’s mark of 195 sixes. If he hits six sixes in Vizag, he will become the second Indian after MS Dhoni to hit 200 sixes in ODIs.

Currently, Rohit is eighth in the all-time list of six-hitters with 312 combined across all formats. In 2017, he created a record by becoming the only player in history to hit over 50 sixes in ODIs against five-time World Champions Australia.

With the kind of form he is in, it won’t be long before ‘Hitman’ becomes the greatest six-hitting machine in limited-overs cricket.

Rohit has been in brilliant form in the last couple of ODIs. In the game against Pakistan in the Asia Cup, he hit an unbeaten 111 in Dubai as India won the game by nine wickets. Out of his six 150+ scores, Rohit is the only individual in history to hit three double centuries in ODIs. The right-hander holds the record for the highest individual ODI score with 264 against Sri Lanka in Eden Gardens in 2014 and he has hit an additional two double tons, with 209 and 208* against Australia in 2013 and Sri Lanka again in 2017.
