HS Prannoy registered a big upset as he defeated five-time champion Lin Dan of China to advance to the third round of the ongoing BWF World Championships on Tuesday.
The World No. 30, Prannoy is on a comeback trail after recovering from a stomach problem. He beat 11th seeded Dan 21-11, 13-21, 21-7 in a match that lasted for 62 minutes.
Prannoy dominated the first game and won it easily. Dan came back strongly in the second showing his class. He won the game 21-13.
Prannoy did not allow Dan any leverage in the final game and won it 21-7 to upset the five-time champion.
This was Prannoy's third win over Lin Dan in his badminton career. Prannoy had earlier defeated Dan at the 2018 Indonesia Open and the 2015 French Open.
