The 2018 Commonwealth Games is set to commence with a glittering opening ceremony at the Carrara Stadium in Gold Coast in some time from now. The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 3:30 (IST).Â
More than 4,500 athletes from 71 nations will compete for 275 gold medals at the Commonwealth Games. This is the first major multi-sport event which will have the same number of men’s and women’s medal events.Â
A strong 217-member Indian contingent will be aiming to bring in a bagful of medals and improve on the nation's fifth-place standing at the 2014 Games in Glasgow.Â
At the previous edition of Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, the Indian medal tally stood at 64 – 15 gold, 30 silver and 19 bronze.Â
