Indian weightlifter Sanjita Chanu clinched gold in the 53 kg women's weightlifting event at the 2018 Commonwealth Games on Friday. The diminutive Manipuri lifer lifted a combined weight of 192 kgs to stand atop the podium on Friday.
Defending champion Papua New Guinea's Loa Dika Toua bagged the silver with a lift of 182 kg. Sanjita's gold medal-winning performance saw her smashing the Commonwealth Games record in the snatch category with a lift of 84 kg.
In 2017, she secured a berth for CWG games after bagging gold in the women's 53kg with a total lift of 195 kgs at the Commonwealth Senior Weightlifting Championships.
Chanu's gold was India's second yellow medal at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games after Mirabai Chanu won gold in the 48 kg event on the opening day. In the men's section, Guruja bagged a silver in the 56 kg.
Indian weightlifters have certainly stolen the show at the Gold Coast games bagging all three medals for India.
