Indian weightlifter Vikas Thakur made India proud on Sunday by clinching bronze in the 94kg weightlifting category at the Commonwealth Games 2018. The 24-year-old who claimed silver at the 2014 CWG in Glasgow lifted a total of 351 kg(192+159).
Papua New Guinea's Steven Kari created a new record in Commonwealth Games when he lifted 370 kg( 216+154) to secure the gold for his country. Canada's Boady Santavy who lifted 369kg (168kg+201kg) bagged the silver medal.Â
The weightlifter from Ludhiana took India's medal tally to 11, which includes six gold, two silver and three bronze.

Earlier in the day, Punam Yadav clinched gold in the 69kg weightlifting category. The lifter from Uttar Pradesh who lifted a total of 222kg had won bronze at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
Minister of Youth Affairs Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore took to Twitter to congratulate Punam for bringing laurels to the country.
