Ravichandran Ashwin has taken 37 tests to complete 200 wickets in test matches. He has become the fastest Indian bowler to achieve this feat and the second-quickest bowler ever to the landmark after Australia's Clarrie Grimmett who took 36 Tests.
Ashwin trapped New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson in front to get to the 200-mark on day four of the first Test at the Green Park in Kanpur . R Ashwin has taken fewer deliveries than any other spinner to take 200 Test wickets.
With this feat, Ashwin left behind the likes of Dennis Lillee and Waqar Younis, who took 38 Tests to get to 200 wickets. South African pacer Dale Steyn took 39 Tests to reach the landmark. Ashwin has bowled 10,291 Deliveries so far in Tests - the least by any spinner at the end of the Test in which he took his 200th wicket.
Ashwin helped India to win its historic 500th Test match. Team India beat New Zealand by 197 runs to win the first Test to take 1-0 lead in the three-match series at Green Park in Kanpur on Monday. Ashwin also picked up 19th 5 wicket haul in the second innings.
