The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) is all set to impose a life ban on Under-23 cricketer Anuj Dedha, who has physically assaulted the former Indian spearhead Amit Bhandari for not selecting him in the Under-23 Delhi State team. Senior selection chairman Anuj Bhandari was attacked by Anuj Dedha and his goons at St. Stephens College Ground on Monday (11th February) when the former was witnessing the game from the sidelines. It has been reported that post this act, Anuj Bhandari has been hospitalized.

Anuj Dedha along with his goons had attacked with hockey sticks, cricket bats, rods as Bhandari suffered a severe injury on the head and other body parts. While Bhandari was taken to the hospital, Dedha was arrested by the Delhi Police and is currently under police custody.

DDCA President, Rajat Sharma said that there will a meeting held on Wednesday to decide the quantum of the punishment. As of now, life ban seems to be the only option in front of the officials. He believes that it’s a mere formality to make the thought into the paperwork.

DDCA will be having a meeting with former India captain Gautam Gambhir today. However, Gautam Gambhir has already suggested a life ban on Anuj Dedha.

“We have a meeting tomorrow but as our former captain Gautam Gambhir has suggested, I think there is no other option left apart from imposing a life ban on this man Anuj Dedha. Whatever he has done, he only deserves exemplary punishment,” Sharma told PTI on Tuesday.

The president also suggested that imposing a life ban on Anuj Dedha will eventually help the selectors of all age group to be fearless while choosing their best squad and not get inclined towards any wrong practices.

“We need to discuss selection issues but I want to assure all selectors that they should continue to fearlessly select sides. I am with them. I have met the Lt Governor Anil Baijal and requested him to ask the police authorities to probe all angles. I would like to know if there is any deep-rooted conspiracy in this attack,” Sharma concluded.
