In the absence of Virat Kohli, who has been rested for the Asia Cup 2018 due to hectic workload, Rohit-Sharma led Indian cricket team is set to defend the Asia Cup, which is set to start from Saturday (September 15) in the UAE. Indian hitman Rohit Sharma holds a unique record, which might help India clinch their back-to-back Asia Cup trophy. In all of his previous outings as a skipper, Rohit Sharma has managed to be on the winnings side, be it a maiden series or a tournament. However, this does not take away the fact that India’s best batsman Virat Kohli will be dearly missed in the Asia Cup 2018.

The Mumbai star made his Indian Premier League (IPL) captaincy debut for Mumbai Indians (MI) back in IPL 2013 following Sachin Tendulkar’s resignation from the leadership and Rohit Sharma defied all odds and led MI to their maiden IPL victory. Mumbai Indians defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 23 runs in the final.

Rohit Sharma was the captain of Mumbai Indians when they had lifted the 2013 Champions League T20 as they defeated Rajasthan Royals in the final by 33 runs.

The Nagpur-born batsman also won his maiden ODI and T20 series as the skipper of India. Rohit Sharma was the leading run-scorer in the series triumph in the absence of regular skipper Virat Kohli. India clean swept the T20I series by 3-0 and bagged the ODI series by 2-1.

Rohit Sharma even won his maiden tri-series as a skipper after he led the Men in Blue to lift the Nidahas Trophy early in 2018. He has managed to find a knack of winning his maiden tournaments and series as a captain and has led the Men in Blue with aggression and dignity in the absence of Virat Kohli.
