Australia started their limited-overs campaign in 2019 on a fabulous note with a 34-run win in the first ODI against Virat Kohli’s Indian cricket team in Sydney. Fifties from Usman Khawaja, Shaun Marsh and Peter Handscomb helped Australia reach 288/5 and the hosts survived a brilliant 133 from Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni’s 68th fifty to achieve a morale-boosting win after the crushing loss in the Test series which they lost 1-2. However, the victory in Sydney helped the Australian cricket team achieve a unique record and it put them in one of the elite lists when it comes to sporting nations.

The win in Sydney was Australia’s 1000th victory in international cricket, making them the first team to achieve this feat. They had secured their 999th win during the Perth Test in 2018 and this win put them in an elite list. The Australian team has played 1852 international games, which is the most by any side. England is second with 1833 runs and they have the second-most number of wins which is 774. India is third on this prestigious list, winning 711 out of 1597 games since 1932. Australia and England were the first teams to play Test cricket in 1877.

When it comes to ODIs, Australia leads the charts when it comes to victories. They are the only team to have a positive win-loss ratio against every team in this format. They also have a positive winning percentage in Tests against every side. Out of 920 ODIs, Australia has won 58 while India is a close second, winning 492 out of 954 games. India has played the most ODIs among all the cricketing nations.

The five-time World Cup champions and also winners of a Test series in every country have the highest winning percentage when it comes to all international cricket combined. Australia is first with 53.9 percent, followed by South Africa with 52% while Pakistan is third with 47.9. India has a better winning percentage than England, with 44 percent as compared to England’s 42.

Australia’s next assignment is the Adelaide ODI in January 15 and they will be bidding to win the ODI series and build momentum for the 2019 World Cup which will be held in England.
