Admist of all controversies, a good news finally came for the Indian pacer Mohammed Shami. BCCI on Thursday cleared India speedster Mohammed Shami's central contract after its Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) acquitting him of corruption charges levelled by his wife Hasin Jahan.
Shami has been given a Grade 'B' annual contract, as per which he will recieve Rs 3 crore as remuneration annually. He is also given chance to play in the 11th season of Indian Premier League for his franchise 'Delhi Daredevils'.
The tournament is scheduled to begin from April 7.
BCCI had decided to withhold Shami's contract after Jahan made a series of allegations including adultery and domestic violence, and also lodged a police complaint against him. The bowler has been denying to all the allegation since the beginning of the issue.
The Committee of Administrators (CoA) specifically asked its ACU chief Neeraj Kumar to investigate charges that the bowler accepted money from one Mohammed Bhai through a Pakistani woman named Alishba.
COA stated in a media release, "The Hon'ble Supreme Court of India appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) had requested Mr Neeraj Kumar, former Police Commissioner of Delhi and Head of BCCI Anti-Corruption Unit, to investigate the allegations against Mohd. Shami in so far as they pertain to the provisions of the BCCI Anti-Corruption Code"
Mr Neeraj Kumar submitted his confidential report to the CoA based on the conclusions in the said report, the CoA is of the view that no further actions/proceedings under the BCCI anti-corruption code are warranted in the matter.
"For this reason, the BCCI shall proceed with offering a Grade ‘B’ annual retainership contract to Mohd. Shami", the release further stated.
After Shami got clearance from BCCI, the Acting President CK Khanna said, ''We were confident that Mohammed Shami will come out clean and we wish him for IPL and and the England tour. Also, I feel he will now come with more confidence''.
Zakir Hussain - Lawyer of Hasin Jahan said, ''My client's allegation was never about match fixing. I cannot raise any allegation on BCCI, but I want to know on what basis and parameters was BCCI's investigation based on''.
