The Board of Control For Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday faced the Supreme Court's wrath for its "defiant attitude" in implementing the directions of the Justice RM Lodha committee to reform cricket in the country and "hurriedly" disbursing around Rs 400 crore to state bodies. During the hearing, Chief Justice of India TS Thakur enquired about BCCI President and BJP parliamentarian Anurag Thakur. He questioned whether the office bearers of the board were professionally qualified.

CJI TS Thakur: “Does anyone of them have any qualification?”

CJI TS Thakur: “Who is the president of the BCCI? What is he? Is he a politician? Did he play cricket?”

Kapil Sibal, BCCI’s counsel: Anurag Thakur had played cricket at the Ranji-trophy level.

CJI TS Thakur: “Even I am the captain of the Supreme Court cricket team.”

Gopal Subramanian, the amicus curae: “I can only say he is not an accomplished cricketer.”

CJI TS Thakur: “These positions in the BCCI are based only on election, not on specific qualification.”
