Indian cricketers Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh can be trouble as their names have cropped up in the Ponzi scam at Mohali. The CBI is preparing a list of famous cricketers and film personalities who received gifts from Pearls Group, which is accused of cheating Rs 45,000 cr form over 5 crore investors. The Ponzi scam is also the biggest in India.
According to officials, Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh have received gifts from the tainted group. The group has invested in IPL and one of the main sponsors of the cash-rich league. Not only IPL it has also invested in Super Fight League, Kabbadi and Golf Premier League and former Australian cricketers Brett Lee was as the brand ambassador.
The CBI is even mulling to seize the plots by the group to Yuvi and Bhajji at Mohali’s posh areas.
The group was dubbing customers by asking them to buy plots of land in the promise of selling it for double the amount in next few years. One single plot was sold many times and lives of investors was ruined by such false promises.
On Sunday, the Metropolitan Magistrate Harvinder sent pearls Group CMD Nirmal Singh Bhangoo and the top executive in CBI’s custody till January 19. The agency is interrogating them to unearth the real truth behind the scam.
Yuvraj, Harbhajan and Brett Lee can be quizzed by the CBI, to find out more about the 45,000-crore scam from which the three cricketers have benefitted.
