In a first of its kind in cricket history, the Indian cricketers took field in a new jersey with names of mothers written on it on Saturday. The names of mothers appeared in place of cricketer’s names.
With that happening, the fifth One Day International between India and New Zealand held at Vishakhapatnam has gone into the record books. The skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni said that it is a very emotional moment for all the players. He told that the cricketers always carry names of their fathers on their back, it is first time that players are carrying their mother’s name.
Recently, few prominent players of Indian cricket team had appeared in an advertisement with names of mothers written on their jerseys. Virat Kohli’s jersey had name of his mother Saroj written on it. Dhoni’s jersey had Devki written on it.
This is a unique initiative of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) where it had decided to put names of cricketer’s mother on their jerseys to recognize the contributions of cricketer’s mothers in their careers on the auspicious occasion of Diwali.
