David Warner, the Australian left-handed batsman who has been banned for one year for his role in the ball-tampering scandal in the Cape Town Test, has announced he will play for the Sylhet Sixers in the Bangladesh Premier League starting in January 2019.

Warner made the announcement on the Sylhet Sixers official Facebook page and said he was excited to be part of the franchise.

This will be Warner’s third stint in global T20 franchises, having represented the Winnipeg Hawks in the inaugural Global T20 Canada League and for St.Lucia Hawks in the Caribbean Premier League.

Warner, along with Steve Smith, was banned for one year by Cricket Australia for their involvement in the ball-tampering scandal against South Africa in the Newlands Test. Both are expected to make a comeback to international cricket by end of March 2019. However, Warner has been permanently banned from holding any leadership position.

The ban by Cricket Australia, though, does not prevent Warner from playing in club cricket and in domestic competitions. Warner also played club cricket in Australia, where he turned up for his club Randwick-Petersham in the New South Wales Premier Cricket at the start of Australia’s cricket summer. The left-hander also had a brief stint in the domestic NT Strike League.
