Deepak Chahar created history in the Nagpur Twenty20 International by becoming the first Indian to take a hat-trick in Twenty20 Internationals. Apart from that, he also took figures of 6/7 in 3.2 overs and it gave him the best figures by a bowler in the format. The haul of 6/7 is a new world record in Twenty20 Internationals, breaking the previous record of 6/8 which was set by Sri Lanka's Ajantha Mendis against Zimbabwe in Hambantota. Chahar's brilliant spell, backed by a spell of 3/30 from Shivam Dube helped India survive an onslaught of 81 from Mohammad Naim as India won the match by 30 runs to win the three match Twenty20 International series 2-1. However, the day belonged to Chahar who put India on course for a win.

It was Chahar who made Bangladesh toil in their chase of 175 by getting the wickets of Liton Das and Soumya Sarkar in quick succession. Liton pulled a short ball to deep midwicket where Washington Sundar ran to his left but slipped as he took the catch. The next ball, Soumya Sarkar mistimed the full ball to mid off. However, Bangladesh were boosted by Naim as he took his time in the powerplay. After the end of the powerplay, with dew playing a big factor, the Indian spinners struggled to grip the ball. Naim took full toll of Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar as he reached his fifty.

At the other end, Mohammad Mithun gave him good company and he too tackled the spinners well. The 98-run stand put Bangladesh on course but Chahar sent back Mithun for 27. Shivam Dube, who struggled in the first two overs, came back and changed the entire complexion of the match. He first got rid of Mushfiqur Rahim for a golden duck but in the next over, Dube yorked Naim for 81 and then proceeded to get Afif Hossain caught and bowled the next ball. The three wickets that Dube took put Bangladesh out of the contest.

Chahar came back and ran through the lower order and he managed to get the hat-trick when he yorked Aminul Islam for nine and it was a great effort after India were boosted by fifties from Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul. Bangladesh inserted India in and Shafiul had immediate success when he got rid of Rohit with a delivery that held its line and the Indian skipper dragged it back onto the stumps.

Shikhar Dhawan looked good and he was given good support by KL Rahul who started off in style with some boundries. Dhawan miscued a lofted shot to deep midwicket but Bangladesh failed to press home the advantage when Aminul Islam dropped Shreyas Iyer on 1. The chance proved to be costly and both batsmen made them pay. Rahul looked in great touch and reached his sixth fifty but he departed soon after. Shreyas Iyer decided to target the Bangladesh bowlers and he went after Afif Hossain as he blasted three consecutive sixes.

Iyer notched up his maiden fifty but he fell for 62. Manish Pandey struck some good blows but Bangladesh bowled decently in the death overs as India reached 174/5. However, the day belonged to Deepak Chahar and his record-breaking bowling spell that has given India plenty to smile. The fact that Chahar struck in the opening spell, middle overs and in the death overs will give the Indian team management plenty of smiles while for Bangladesh, it was another missed opportunity.
