England set world record ODI total of 444/3 against Pakistan

England have set a new world record one day international score, hitting 444 for three against Pakistan at Trent Bridge. The total upsets Sri Lanka’s 443 for nine against Holland in 2006.

Alex Hales was the pick of the England batsmen, scoring 171, his country’s highest-ever individual ODI score.

Root played his part with a fifth consecutive half-century. Just when humongous milestones beckoned for the pair, the visitors hit back by dismissing both of them in consecutive overs.

But there was simply no respite. Buttler and Morgan took on the baton from their compatriots and hammered home the advantage in a blistering partnership to catapult England to the highest ODI total ever.
