After a lacklustre show in both the Test matches against England, Indian wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik is reportedly set to be dropped for the young, flamboyant Rishabh Pant at the Nottingham Test, which will be played from August 18.

The veteran wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik has once again failed to perform in an international series after coming from an impressive domestic season. Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant, who grabbed the eyeballs after a stunning Indian Premier League (IPL), continued his brilliant form with India A and as per the latest reports, he is set to replace Karthik in the Nottingham Test.

Former Indian batsmen Dilip Vengsarkar, who reportedly gave the nod for Virat Kohli’s inclusion has asked the team management to select Pant, an ‘explosive batsman’ and wicket-keeper.

“Rishabh Pant should get in,” he told BBC Radio. “Apart from Kohli, nobody has shown that they could score runs here.”

Pant has also garnered praise from Indian legend and India-A coach Rahul Dravid.

“Rishabh has shown that he could bat differently. He has the temperament and skills to bat differently,” Dravid had earlier told bcci.tv.

“He is always going to be an attacking player but reading of the situation when one is playing red ball cricket is required. We are glad that he has been picked in the national team and I hope he takes this maturity and builds from thereon,” Dravid had said.

Dinesh Karthik has looked clueless in dealing with the red ball. England’s conditions have always favoured the seam bowlers, but Karthik’s poor technique have not made it easy for him.

However, it will be interesting to see how his future pans out if Pant grabs his opportunity, if given a chance.

India lock horns with England on 18th August in the 3rd Test match, which will be played in Trent Bridge, Nottingham.
