New Delhi:

Indian wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant on Saturday made history as he tonked the red cherry over the boundary line to open his Test cricket account with a massive six and became the first ever Indian batsman to do so.

Pant, who was handed his Test debut in the ongoing 3rd Test match against England at the Trent Bridge, Nottingham, smashed leg-spinner Adil Rashid on his second ball of the innings to open his individual scoring in red-ball cricket.

However, Pant is not the only batsman to do so in Tests. Eric Freeman, Carlisle Best, Keith Dabengwa, Dale Richards, Shafiul Islam, Jahurul Islam, Al-Amin Hossain, Mark Craig, Dhananjaya De Silva, Kamrul Islam Rabbi and Sunil Ambris have previously done the same as Rishabh Pant as he became the 12th overall player in the history of Test cricket to open the Test career with a maximum.

The flamboyant Pant, who replaced the injured Dinesh Karthik, became the 291st Test player for India after skipper Virat Kohli gave him the debut cap.

Meanwhile, India are in a strong position after the Day 1 of the ongoing Trent Bridge Test, after Virat Kohli played a sensational knock of 97 runs with Ajinkya Rahane who got out for 81. India are currently at 307 for 6 after Day 1.
