Faf du Plessis was rested for the three-match Twenty20 International series against India.  Du Plessis, though, is in the Test squad and he has started his journey to India for the three-Test series which begin on October 2. However, his journey has been far from pleasant with the South Africa Test captain blasting British Airways for their poor service. In a series of Tweets, du Plessis stated, "Finally on a plane to Dubai after a 4 hour delay . Now I’m gonna miss my flight to India, next flight is only 10 hours later." However, things got worse in Dubai when his cricketing kit went missing. The South Africa skipper could only be philosophical, "When life gives you lemons , make lemonade .My cricket bag hasn't arrived. Actually can just smile about it but, wow @British_Airways  today was one of my worst flying experiences where everything went wrong. Now just hoping I’ll have my bats back eventually." British Airways responded that they were on hand to help the South Africa Test skipper but even that response was trolled, with many stating that he needed his bats to hold in his hands.

Following the end of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, there were changes made in the South Africa cricket camp and Quinton de Kock was appointed as the new Twenty20 International skipper as they build up for the 2020 World T20 in Australia. Du Plessis had to endure a torrid time in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 as South Africa failed to make the knock-outs and lost key games to India, Pakistan, New Zealand and England. However, they registered a win against Australia for the first time in 27 years.

South Africa are currently trailing the three-match Twenty20 International series 1-0 against India. The first game in Dharamshala was washed out without a toss taking place due to rain while the second game of the series in Mohali witnessed a Virat Kohli special as he smashed 72 to become the leading run-getter in Twenty20 Internationals and help India take a 1-0 lead in the series. India would be bidding to win the series in Bangalore as they look to continue their dominance in the limited-overs format against the Proteas.

The three-match Test series will begin on October 2 at the ADA-VDCA stadium in Vizag followed by Tests at the Maharashtra Cricket Association stadium in Pune on October 10 followed by the third and final Test in Ranchi on October 19. South Africa had lost the previous series in India by a margin of 3-0 in the four-Test series in 2015.
