Gautam Gambhir's comeback haunted by shoulder injury

Gautam Gambhir’s return to test cricket turned to be painful as the opener suffered what looked like a serious shoulder injury after diving to complete a risky second run in the third over of India’s second innings.

Gambhir, who was unbeaten at six at the stage, looked to be in considerable pain and was forced to leave the field due to the injury.

Comebacks are never easy especially at the age of 34 and after a hiatus of two years. The Dashing opener was called up as replacement for KL Rahul, who was ruled out of the series due to a hamstring injury.

He was called up for the second Test in Kolkata, but was on the bench as Shikhar Dhawan was given another chance. He was unable to continue batting following his injury.

Gambhir was making a comeback after two years and failed to convert big in the first innings as he fell for 29 trapped lbw by Trent Boult on day one of the Indore Test.

The Kolkata Knight Riders’ captain had one more chance in the second essay and if he managed to get a decent score, he could have been in the fray to be picked for India’s upcoming Test matches.

But as the situations portray, it would be difficult for the veteran opener to essay a longer innings in his second comeback.
