Women’s World T20 2018: Harmanpreet Kaur’s historic ton creates many records

Harmanpreet Kaur has a habit of creating history when the occasion is big. Her 171 off 115 balls in the semi-final of the Women’s World Cup in 2017 against Australia enhanced her reputation considerably. Since then, the current Indian women’s skipper has provided some memorable moments.

In the first game of the Women’s World T20, Kaur created history again when she blasted a century against New Zealand at Providence, Guyana. Her 103 off 51 balls gave India a sensational 34-run win to get their campaign off to a fine start. During her knock, she shattered several records. Here is a list of records that she broke.

1 – Harmanpreet Kaur became the first India woman player to score a century in the World T20 event.

103 – Harmanpreet Kaur’s maiden century in Twenty20 Internationals. She is the first Indian player to hit a century in this format. The previous highest was 97* by Mithali Raj against Malaysia.

134 – The partnership between Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues for the fifth wicket, India’s highest in Twenty20 Internationals. The previous highest was 130 by Punam Raut and Thirush Kamini against Bangladesh in Vadodara in 2013.

3 – Harmanpreet Kaur became the third player to hit a century in the World T20. Australia’s Meg Lanning smashed 126 against Ireland in the 2014 World T20 while West Indies’Deandra Dottin hit 112* against South Africa in St Kitts in 2010. Dottin’s century was the first-ever in Women’s World T20.

194/5 – India’s second-highest score in Twenty20 Internationals. However, this is the highest score in World T20, beating Australia’s 191/4 against Ireland in the 2014 event.
