India beat England by 246 runs in the second Test in Vishakapatnam courtesy batting heroics of Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara and superlative bowling performance by spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. The victory at the Vizag Test has given India a 1-0 lead in the five match Test series.

Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli centuries steered India to a commanding first innings lead

The Indian batting efforts were led by Cheteshwar Pujara and captain Virat Kohli who compiled masterly centuries in the first innings against the visitors on a turning tracks which offered aid to the spinners. They exhibited high quality batting by showcasing solid technique and temperament to occupy the crease and pile on the runs.

Cheteshwar Pujara once again restored confidence among the selectors by showing that he can hold fort at the crucial number three position . Meanwhile Kohli who hasnt had the best times against the visitors improved upon his dismal record against England. Kohli scored his 14th Test century and became the fastest Indian to reach the landmark.

Ravichandran Ashwin cast a web around the English batsmen 

Once the batsman did their job by putting up a daunting first innings total,the English had an uphill task to get anywhere close to the Indian total on a spin friendly wicket. Ace off spinner Ravichandran Ashwin once proved lethal on Indian conditions and cast a web around the English by picking up yet another five wicket haul.Ashwin has now picked up 22 five wicket hauls in Test cricket and is fourth on the all time list of Indians with the most five wicket hauls.

Ashwin was well complimented by Jadeja and Jayant Yadav who chipped in with wickets regularly.The Indian seamers also bowled their hearts out by giving the home side regular breakthroughs early in the innings.

After bundling England for 255 in their first innings, India looked in a commanding position to win the match.However the English seam duo of James Anderson and Stuart Broad had the Indian top order in a spot of bother before Indian skipper Virat Kohli restored the innings with a fighting knock of 81 runs.

Jayant Yadav shines in his debut Test

Jayant Yadav made an impressive Test debut with a fine all-round performance. Yadav chipped in with valuable knocks of 35 and 27 in the first and second innings respectively and was among the wickets in both the innings.

The England batting also deserves a note of mention as their openers Alastair Cook and Haseeb Hameed provided stiff resistance against the Indian bowlers in their second innings before the spinners ran through the visitors to clinch victory on the final day of the Test match.
