The Indian team will face some issues in the ICC Champions Trophy as far as opening spot is concerned, that’s what former skipper Mohammad Azharuddin feels. Azharuddin said this in context with Rohit Sharma who hasn’t opened since quite long time.
In the 10th edition of the Indian Premier League, Rohit hasn’t opened for Mumbai Indians, which can be a major concern for the ‘Men in Blue’ in the upcoming tournament.
“When you are an opening batsman, you should open. I always feel that the best players should play the first 20 overs. If your best batsmen are playing after 8-10 overs in T20s and after 30 overs in a 50-overs game, there’s no use. Rohit Sharma is a good player, and I was very surprised to see him bat at No. 3 or 4 or 5 (for MI),” Azharuddin was quoted as saying by DNA.

Although, there are two warm-up matches before the big tournament, which may help Sharma to adjust to the playing position. The former captain further said that he will be disappointed if the team doesn’t win the ICC trophy.
“I will be very disappointed if they don’t win the tournament. They’ve got the ammunition. We’ve got the best batting, the best fast bowlers, and we’ve also got the best spinners,” Azharuddin said.
Virat Kohli and Co. will begin the ICC Champions Trophy tournament facing rival Pakistan on June 4.
