Indian Women’s cricket team lost to England in a nail-biting contest of World Cup final match on Sunday at Lords.

It was an anti-climactic result for India since they were well on course for a memorable triumph, sitting pretty at 191 for three in 42.5 before a batting collapse saw them bowled out for 219 in 48.4 overs.     

Needing just 38 runs off 43 balls, the Indian lower middle order committed harakiri losing seven wickets for 28 runs in 6.5 overs.

Mithali Raj Lynchpin of the Indian batting order. Ended up as India's leading run scorer with 409 runs. Played the  Sheet anchor's role to perfection all through the tourney.

Seasoned seamer Jhoolan Goswami spearheaded the pace attack with distinction by exploiting the seamer friendly conditions in England. Jhoolan made consistent breakthroughs for India and ended up with 11 wickets.

The tall and lanky seamer reserved her best for the final, scalping 3 wickets to restrict England to 229.

Punam Raut gave India the solid platform up front. Raut got India off to steady starts with fellow opener Smriti Mandhana in the first few games and then produced a stellar century against the Aussies. Raut contributed with a well compiled half century against England in the finals. 

Harmanpreet Kaur – The star all-rounder produced some power packed all round performances all through the tourney.Kaur provided the impetus down the order with some quick fire cameos.She produced the knock of the tournament with a match winning 171 against the Aussies in the finals.
