Mithali Raj, the captain of Indian Women’s cricket team has made the country proud by becoming the highest run scorer in One Day Internationals on Wednesday.
In the crucial game against Australia at the ICC Women’s world cup 2017, Mithali Raj surpassed 5992 runs of England’s Charlotte Edwards to become the highest run scorer.
The Indian team is taking on a formidable Australian side in a pool match at the ICC Women's World Cup at Bristol, England on Wednesday. Australian captain Meg Lanning won the toss and decided to bowl first in seam friendly overcast conditions.
India won their first four matches on the trot against West Indies, England, Sri Lanka and arch-rivals Pakistan before being handed their first defeat to South Africa by 115 runs in their last pool encounter.

Former captain and COA member Diana Edulji congratulated Mithali Raj on becoming the highest run-getter in women’s ODI cricket, saying she is among the best the country has ever produced.
“It is a landmark day for India’s women’s cricket. First Jhulan Goswami became the leading wicket-taker in ODIs, now Mithali has broken Charlotte Edwards’ record. It also shows that our women’s game is on the up,”
While Mithali’s ODI average is remarkably over 50, she has got some flak for her performance in the T20 format.
Edulji sees 34-year-old Mithali playing for another year before calling it a day.
“She has already said that it is going to be her last World Cup. Like Jhulan, she is also in the twilight of her career. I see her playing for at least another year,” Edulji added.
