England defeated South Africa by mere 68 runs despite scoring 373 for five in 50 overs on Wednesday. Defending the mammoth total, South Africa scored 305 for nine, becoming the first team to score in excess of 300 batting second in women’s ODI.

Batting first, the 275 runs partnership for the second wicket between England’s star women cricketers Sarah Taylor (147) and Tammy Beaumont (148) helped them to cross the 350-run mark. This partnership is the highest in Women’s World Cup history and the second-highest in all women’s ODIs.

The win against South Africa has increased the chances of England to secure a semi-finals berth. With 6 points, England is now on 3rd position, while South Africa stand no. 4 spot with 5 points. Australia lead the points table followed by India with 8 points each.
