India is participating in the ICC Women's World Cup being held in the United Kingdom under the mercurial leadership of Mithali Raj. The Indian team is on a winning spree as it tasted victory in its last 16 matches out of 17 games. The team has a good blend of hard-hitting batsmen, bowlers and eclectic fielders. Cricket fanatics in India will hope their team to claim the silverware and etch history in the tournament. Let's have a look at the Indian squad selected for the premier tournament.

Mithali Raj: Mithali Raj is the captain of the Indian Women's cricket team in Test's and ODI. She has taken the Indian team to great heights and under her leadership the team has won 16 of their last 17 games.Her tally of 5614 runs in 155 innings includes five centuries, five knocks that finished in 90s - four of them undefeated - and 38 other fifties; and all that at an average above 50. She's 378 runs away from overtaking Charlotte Edwards who sits atop the all-time highest run-getters' list in the ODI format.The Indian cricket team will hope that their captain leads by example in the ongoing World Cup to help the team clinch the silverware.

Ekta Bisht: Ekta Bisht is a left handed batswoman and slow left-arm orthodox bowler. On October 3, 2012 Bisht took a hat-trick as India outplayed during match of the ICC World Women Twenty 20 played in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Bisht had played a crucial role in India’s victory over South Africa in the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier Super Six game as she had shared 7 wickets with Shikha Pandey. Her all-round abilities will play a crucial role in India’s World Cup campaign.

Rajeshwari Gayakwad: Rajeshwari Gayakwad has represented India in 27 ODIs and 13 T20Is. Her slow left-arm orthodox bowling has been India’s saviour a number of times and the team will hope that she delivers in a big way in the World Cup.

Jhulan Goswami: Jhulan Goswami is one of the best all-rounders to play for Indian Women’s cricket team and guided the Indian team to first test series win in England in 2006-07 season.An integral part of the team, Jhulan is noted for both her batting and bowling (right arm medium) capabilities. She has a Test bowling average of less than 20. Her pace and guile will play a huge role in India’s world cup campaign.

Mansi Joshi: Mansi Joshi is a promising right-arm medium-fast bowler who debuted for Team India in 2016. She has played only 5 ODIs and 1 T20I thus far. However, the Indian team will hope that the youngster gives some special performances to guide the team towards the trophy.

Harmanpreet Kaur: Harmanpreet Kaur is a pinch-hitter and one of the batting stalwarts of the Indian team. Virender Sehwag is her idol and she is renowned for her penchant to demolish opposition attacks with ease. She's a path-breaker too, having become the first India cricketer - male or female - to sign a Big Bash League contract with Sydney Thunder in Australia. Her big hitting abilities will be a big boost to India’s World cup campaign.

Veda Krishnamurthy: She is a right-handed batswoman and bowls right-arm leg-break. Further, she is another all-round player whose destructive abilities will be very helpful for India in their quest for the World Cup. 

Smriti Mandhana: Mandhana made her Test debut in August 2014 against England at Wormsley Park. She helped her team win the match by scoring 22 and 51 in her first and second innings, respectively; in the latter innings, she shared in an opening-wicket partnership of 76 runs with Thirush Kamini, chasing 181. She is one of the bulwarks of the Indian batting line up and the team will expect some special innings from her in their quest for the eternal silverware.

Mona Meshram: Mona Meshram is another batswoman who has made rapid strides in her short career. She was also the recipient of the BCCI’s M.A. Chidambaram Award for the best Junior lady cricketer of the 2010-11 season (623 runs at 103.83 in 8 matches, inclusive of one century and 5 half centuries)

Nuzhat Parween: Nuzhat Masih Parween debuted for the Indian national team in November 2016, in a Twenty20 International series against the West Indies. Parween plays as a wicket-keeper and hard-hitting batsman.

Shikha Pandey: Shikha Pandey is a right-handed batsman and medium fast bowler. She made her international Twenty20 (T20) debut on 9 March 2014 while playing against Bangladesh at Cox's Bazar cricket stadium in Bangladesh. In August of the same year, she made her One Day International cricket (ODI) and Test cricket debut while playing against England at Wormsley and Scarborough respectively.

Punam Raut: Punam Raut is one of the lynchpins of the Indian batting attack and the team has high hopes from her in the premier tournament. On 15 May 2017, in an ODI vs Ireland, Sharma set a world record opening partnership of 320 runs with Deepti Sharma, contributing 188. This beat both the standing women's record of 229 (by Sarah Taylor and Caroline Atkins of England) and the standing men's record in ODIs of 286 (by Upul Tharanga and Sanath Jayasuriya of Sri Lanka).

Sushma Verma: Sushma Verma is a wicket-keeper batswoman who represents Himachal Pradesh in the domestic arena. She debuted in 2014 and since then has done some fantastic work behind the stumps.

Poonam Yadav: A leg-spinning genius, Poonam Yadav has left a mark in international cricket since she debuted in February 2016.She has claimed 22 wickets in 14 ODIs and 34 wickets in 23 T20Is, which proves her huge utility for the team. Her teammates will expect more heroics from her to claim cricket’s ultimate prize – the World Cup.

Deepti Sharma: Deepti Sharma’s all round abilities have won hearts across the globe and she has earned applause from even her male counterparts.On 15 May 2017, in a WODI verses Ireland, Sharma set a world record opening partnership of 320 runs with Poonam Raut, contributing 188. This beat both the standing women's record of 229 (by Sarah Taylor and Caroline Atkins of England) and the standing men's record in ODIs of 286 (by Upul Tharanga and Sanath Jayasuriya of Sri Lanka)She would be a tough force to reckon with for the opposition teams and a pivotal part of the Indian middle order in the ongoing World cup.
