The year 2020 is the year for Twenty20 Internationals and the first major tournament is about to start. The ICC Women's World T20 is all set to begin in Australia and it will be Harmanpreet Kaur's India taking on the reigning and defending champions Australia at the Sydney Showground Stadium on Friday. Australia are the four-time World T20 champions while England and the West Indies won the tournament in 2009 and 2016 respectively. The Indian women's cricket team, on the other hand, has made some great strides in the last couple of years when it comes to major ICC tournaments. India has never made it beyond the last four in their six attempts so far but in 2018, the team managed to reach the semi-finals where they lost to England. In 2017, India had reached the final of the Women's World Cup for the first time in 12 years but they suffered heartbreak when they lost to England again in a tense final at Lord's.
In the recently concluded Women's Twenty20 International tri-series which involved India, England and Australia, the sides put on a good performance. England got the better of Australia in a super over while India also defeated Australia to qualify for the final. However, in the big game situation, India suffered a dramatic collapse and went on to lose the final by 11 runs to hand Australia the tri-series title.
