India shall be taking on Australia in a five-match one day series with the first ODI commencing on September 17 at Chennai. The Men in Blue'' are on a high after drubbing Sri Lanka 5-0 in the recently concluded series. Meanwhile, Australia has come on the Indian shores post drawing a series with Bangladesh.
The series has all the ingredients to be a closely contested affair. Australia shall be led by Steven Smith while Indians shall once again be under the command of their prolific run scoring machine Virat Kohli. Both sides shall be missing a couple of key players. India have rested their spin twins R Ashwin and R Jadeja while Australia's pace attack has been weakened due to the absence of their seamers Mitchell Starc and Jos Hazelwood.
There is a lot at stake in the series as far as the ICC ODI rankings are concerned. India and Australia are currently placed at the second and third place respectively after top ranked South Africa. The result of the series shall catapult India to the number one ranked team in limited overs cricket.
