Virat Kohli-led team India on Sunday became the No. 1 side in the One Day International (ODI) after defeating Australia and clinching the series 4-1.

Since the inception of the ODI rankings in 2002, only four ODI nations have dominated the rankings. Australia have been the dominant side with South Africa the second best. Next are the ‘Men in Blue’ who have been on the Number 1 spot for 5 different periods.

Periods when India have been the No. 1 ODI side:

1. Jan 2013 to Jan 2014 (12 months)

2. September 2014 to September 14 (1 month)

3. November 14 to November 14 (1 month)

4.  September 24th to September 27 (4 days)

5. October 1 - Present

India who were on 119 points before the 5th ODI against the Aussies at Nagpur, moved to 120 points after winning the last ODI on Sunday.

India are just ahead of South Africa who are on the second place with 119 points.

Meanwhile, Australia retained the third place despite the series loss against India.
