The Kohli led 'Men in Blue' kicked off the series on a winning note, inflicting a 28 run defeat over the hosts in the first game at Johannesburg. The Indians extended their good form in the ODI series to outplay their opponents with both bat and ball and continued their dominance
The Indians set up a mammoth 203 total courtesy a belligerent ton from opener Shikhar Dhawan.

The left-hander set up a competitive target for the Proteas by providing the opening salvo with first Rohit Sharma.  Dhawan had good support from Indian skipper Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni and Manish Pandey who played their parts with handy knocks.

Chasing a herculean total of 204, the Proteas were handed a good start by opener Reeza Hendricks. However, seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar produced a fiery spell to make regular breakthroughs and dent their top order. However, there was a late salvo by Farhaan Behardien which kept the South Africans in the game. Bhuvi came back to polish off the South African tail and hand India.

The South Africans would be dented by the loss of their star batsman AB De Villiers who has been ruled of the series due to injury.Meanwhile, Suresh Raina who made a comeback into the Indian team could be promoted up the order.
