India vs England, 4th Test, Day 1
Day 1 - Summary
England won the toss and elected to bat. England got off to a solid start with both their openers Alastair Cook and debutant Keaton Jennings stitching a healthy partnership of 99 runs. Ravindra Jadeja broke the opening stand by scalping the England captain Cook on 46. Jennings continued to help the visitors pile on runs with valuable partnerships with Joe Root and Moeen Ali. Ace off-spinner R Ashwin then cast his web by striking quick blows to dent the English middle order. Ashwin got the wickets of Root, Ali and Bairstow in quick succession and helped India get back into the game. Meanwhile Jennings brought up his century on debut. Wicket-keeper Jos Butler and Ben Stokes steadied things for the visitors towards the end of the day to put a respectable 288 on board at stumps.
