Team India opener Ajikya Rahane scored four consecutive fifties against Australia in the recently concluded 5-ODI series. But despite his consistent performance with the willow, he was dropped from the squad for 3-match T20 series starting October 7.
The Indian National Team selectors shocked not Just Rahane and his fans but also the Cricket legends including the little master Sunil Gavaskar.
Unhappy with Rahane’s exclusion, former Indian captain and star opener Sunil Gavaskar has questioned KL Rahul’s selection in the team despite missing all five ODIs against Aussies.
“Why is KL Rahul, who hasn’t played the last five ODIs picked ahead of Ajinkya Rahane. He has scored four consecutive fifties, why is he not in the T20I team,” said Gavaskar in an interview to NDTV.
“Rahane’s exclusion from the T20I squad is not understandable,” Gavaskar added.
Ajinkya Rahane, the Mumbai-based cricketer was called in to replace Shikhar Dhawan after he ruled out of the series against Australia due to some family problems.
And Rahane made much out of the opportunity and after failing in the first ODI scored four consecutive fifties (55, 70, 53, 61) in the next four matches. With that, he also joined the select group of cricketers—Sunil Gavaskar, Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar.
Earlier during the West Indies tour, Rahane was called as a replacement for Rohit Sharma and he used the opportunity to become the man of the series.
Despite having consistency by his side, Rahane failed to impress selectors and left out for the T20 series.
After his exclusion, Rahane said he respects the decision of selectors and said the competition in the team is necessary and he has always enjoyed that.
