While you were sleeping, India on Tuesday night thrashed England by eight wickets in the first of three-match T-20 international series at Old Trafford stadium in Manchester. KL Rahul was the star of the Indian cricket team's victory with an unbeaten 101 off just 54 balls. Rahul outclassed the English bowlers in their home conditions and powered India to a Royal victory.
Earlier, Virat Kohli won the toss and choose to bowl first on the dry surface of Old Trafford. Batting first, England had a decent opening partnership between Jason Roy and Jos Buttler. Both the openers provided their team a blistering start and reached 50 in just 4.5 overs. However, then came Umesh Yadav who outpaced Roy (30 off 20 bowls) on the last ball of his third over.
Rest of the work was done by Kuldeep Yadav who took his first T-20 fifer and send the half of the English team back to pavilion. Yadav took five wickets in his four-over spell and conceded just 24 runs.
Butller, however, remained on the other side and helped England reach a fighting total of 159 runs in their 20-over innings. He scored 69 runs off just 46 bowls.
Chasing a moderate total, India didn't have the decent start and lost opener Shikhar Dhawan in the very first over. The inform southpaw could only manage to score four runs off four bowls.
After Dhawan's wicket, Virat Kohli promoted KL Rahul and sent him to bat at number three. Rahul, a traditional opener grabbed the opportunity with both hands and hit the English bowlers all over the ground. In his 54 bowls innings, Rahul smashed an unbeaten ton and hit 10 fours and five sixes.
Rohit Sharma, on the other hand, played the responsible innings and scored 32 runs off 30 bowls. Rohit fall victim of Rashid in the thirteenth over of the innings.
Skipper Kohli replaced Rohit and made sure India's comfortable victory with eight bowls remaining. Kohli finished off in style by hitting a six to Moeen Ali on the second bowl of 19th over. With his 22-run innings, Kohli also became the fastest cricket to reach 2000 runs in T20 Internationals. Kohli took 56 innings to reach the milestone.
Kuldeep Yadav was honoured with player of the match award for his best bowling figures of 5-24.Â
