After a record setting 5-0 clean sweep in the T20I series, India will look to continue their winning momentum in the ODI series against New Zealand. India are set to play three ODIs, starting Wednesday. India, however, suffered a big blow ahead of the match as limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma was ruled out of the ODI and Test series. Rohit had to retire hurt during 5th T20I match that India won on Sunday.
Mayank Agarwal has been confirmed as Rohit's replacement for the ODI series while Shubman Gill - who recently slammed a double ton against New Zealand day, has been called for the Test series. Agarwal was the logical choice in the white-ball format since he was the reserve opener in the side during the home ODI series against the West Indies when Shikhar Dhawan was absent due to knee injury. However, he is not expected to play in the first match with KL Rahul and Prithvi Shaw expected to open for India.
India Predicted XI: Prithvi Shaw, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli (C), Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Manish Pandey, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Navdeep Saini, Jasprit Bumrah
New Zealand Predicted XI: Martin Guptill, Tom Blundell, Kane Williamson (C), Ross Taylor, Tom Latham (WK), James Neesham, Colin de Grandhomme, Mitchell Santner, Scott Kuggeleijn, Ish Sodhi, Hamish Bennett
The third T20I was also played in Bay Oval. While the match saw some big scoring overs, it was not easy to get the ball away. It expected to a little two-pace. It may help spinners from both sides on Wednesday.
The rains are expected to stay away from Hamilton. However, it will be partly cloudy. It might be cold in the evening as the temperature is expected to dip after the sun goes down.
India's confidence must be riding high after the T20I series win. However, with several key players missing due to injury for India, New Zealand will be hoping to turn the tables in the 50-overs format. Still, India are very much the favourites to win and take a 1-0 lead in the series.
