After the slam-bang action of the Twenty20 Internationals and the ODIs, the action now shifts to the two-Test series between India and New Zealand. Virat Kohli's Indian cricket team whitewashed New Zealand 5-0 in the Twenty20 Internationals while New Zealand got their revenge by whitewashing India 3-0 in the ODIs. The two-Test series is part of the ICC World Test Championships and it is an important event for both sides. Victory for India will give them not just their second series win in New Zealand in 51 years but it could also cement their spot in the final of the ICC World Test Championships in Lord's in June 2021.
For New Zealand, if they can continue their dominance at home, then they could realistically stay in contention. New Zealand will be welcoming back Trent Boult back in the side while Matt Henry has been called as a cover for Neil Wagner, who is expecting the birth of his child. On the other hand, India will be aiming to sort out who will Mayank Agarwal's opening partner be. In the warm-up game between India and New Zealand XI in Hamilton, both Prithvi Shaw and Shubman Gill failed to get going and this will be an interesting connundrum. They will also be wondering what the bowling composition will be and it will be interesting to see whether they go with three pacers and two spinners or they go with four pacers and an all-rounder.
