Young guns such as Rishabh Pant are highly inspired by India’s maverick former captain and iconic wicket-keeper batsman MS Dhoni. Delhi Daredevils batsman Pant, who experts hail as the next superstar of Indian cricket, was provided a pep talk by the World cup winning captain ahead of the India-West Indies first ODI in Port of Spain.
The first ODI was washed out after notorious weather played spoilsport. India, however, had a good start as they scored 199 runs in 39 overs for the loss of 3 wickets.
Pant, 19, is being groomed as Dhoni’s replacement since his pinch hitting capabilities created waves in the domestic circuit. In the last edition of the Ranji Trophy, Pant rewrote history books by slamming the fastest ton in the competition history (48 balls).
