Jasprit Bumrah's immaculate slower deliveries and yorkers have helped him emerge as one of the frontline bowlers in the slog overs for both Mumbai Indians and the Indian cricket team.On Saturday, too he displayed the same tenacity as he bowled a majestic Super Over in Mumbai's bid to defend 11 runs in the thrilling match against Gujarat Lions.
The spectacular over witnessed Bumrah starting on a dismal note as he began with a no-ball and wide. However, he soon recovered enough to vary his pace and bowled some deliveries in the block hole to choke both Aaron Finch and Brendon Mcculum's hard-hitting style.
It was one of the finest death overs in IPL history as Bumrah gave only 6 runs in it and helped his team edge out Gujarat Lions and seal their seventh victory of the tournament.
Chasing a modest target of 154, Mumbai Indians were well placed at 104 for 2 in 13 overs and then 127 for 4 in 16 overs. However, James Faulkner, Basil Thampi and Ravindra Jadeja brought Gujrat Lions back into the match as Parthiv Patel hit a 44 ball 70 to propel Mumbai Indians towards victory.
Four run-outs occurred in the last seven balls as Mumbai Indians were all-out for 153 off the final ball.As the scores of both the teams were now tied, the one over eliminator came into play which saw Mumbai Indians score 11 with Kieron Pollard hitting Faulkner for a boundary and a six. Jasprit Bumrah then took the reins in his hands as he weaved magic with the ball to help his team earn a much awaited win.
