Kings XI Punjab scored an emphatic 7 run victory in a thrilling encounter with Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede cricket stadium. Punjab scored 230 runs for the loss of 3 wickets and Mumbai gave them a strong fight as they too piled n 223 runs for 6 wickets.
Lendl Simmons and Kieron Pollard hit brutal half-centuries to keep Mumbai alive till the fag end of the match. Parthiv Patel and Hardik Pandya too hit brute cameos and at one point it seemed that Mumbai will chase down the record score.
The earlier highest chase in IPL had been achieved by Rajasthan Royals who had conquered a massive total of 217 runs. Mumbai could have broken down that record but the team’s Calypso barrage was halted by Kings XI Punjab bowlers Mohit Sharma and Sandeep Sharma.
Both the speedsters bowled excellently in the death and Mohit defended 16 runs in the final over while Pollard was on strike.

Earlier, in the Kings XI Punjab innings Man-of-the-match Wriddhiman Saha scored a 55 ball 93 to help his team post the highest score of this edition of the IPL. He was well supported by Glenn Maxwell and Martin Guptill whose cameos accelerated the run rate.
Punjab’s victory has spiced up the tournament and the team has kept its hopes of earning a spot in the play-offs alive.
