Defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad are set to lock horns against Gujarat Lions at Kanpur’s Green Park stadium. The match will commence on Saturday evening as SRH will go all out to for a victory as it will ensure their place in the play-offs of this edition of the IPL.
Hyderabad can make the play-offs even if they lose the match although in such a scenario, they will have to hope that Rising Pune Supergiant defeat Kings XI Punjab in their final game on Sunday.
SRH coach Tom Moody has said that his team will like to leave their destiny in the hands of other teams. They will play like champions and would try to achieve full points from the match.
Hyderabad is ranked 4th on the IPL points table whereas Gujarat Lions is ranked 7th.Inconsistency has been the bane of the defending champions as they faltered in the middle of the tournament after winning their first few games.
Their form hasn’t been great recently as they lost 2 of their last 3 games. The batting is heavy with the likes of skipper David Warner, Moises Henriques, Shikhar Dhawan and Yuvjraj Singh whereas the bowling is being well led by Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Rashid Khan.
Young pacers like Siddharth Kaul and Mohammed Siraj have impressed whereas spinner Mohammad Nabi too has been a force to reckon with.
Ashish Nehra’s injury and Mustafizur Rehman’s departure have hurt Hyderabad but their bowling has rebounded in the past few games. As far as the Gujarat Lions’ squad is concerned, their batting has flourished throughout the tournament with Suresh Raina, Dinesh Karthik, Dwayne Smith and Aaron Finch being consistently among runs.
Wickets have been a premium and irrespective of the number of different spinners they have tried, Lions haven't been able to cause the required damage with the ball.
