New Delhi :

Former Indian opener Virendra Sehwag has come forward to support Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who is facing social media backlash for his poor form of run in the season 10 of IPL. Dhoni for his team Rising Pune Supergiant has only scored 61 runs out the 4 matches he has played.

A number of debates are also going on in the cricket arena about MS Dhoni’s recent batting form and the cricket pundits are also considering it a concern for India’s chances in the upcoming Champions Trophy.

A hastag #Dhonidropeed also made a round on the social media after the Jharkhand captain’s bat remained quite in the recent times. Sehwag is not the first cricketer who has backed Dhoni, earlier, former Australian fast bowler Brett Lee also showed his support for Dhoni.

While talking to a Hindi news channel, the former Kings XI Punjab captain said that coming down the order to bat is a difficult and people need to stay calm before judging Dhoni’s performance. He expressed emphatically that he’s make a comeback with authority. “The position at which he’s coming in to bat is very difficult. He is still the best at No. 5 or No. 6,” said Sehwag at a cricket show.

Sehwag further added, “There’s no doubt that he will be back in form sooner rather than later. There’s a lot of time left in the IPL. One should not judge a player of Dhoni’s stature just by the outcome of three-four games.”

Sehwag also hailed Dhoni’s performance against England in the ODI series. He said that the Indian squad for Champions Trophy should not be expected without the presence of Dhoni in it.

“He recently scored a match winning hundred against England. So I don’t think he’s out of touch. You can’t even imagine an Indian side going to Champion’s Trophy without Dhoni. Things like this can happen in a tournament like IPL,” he added.

“IPL should not be a platform to judge an experienced player like Dhoni. It’s fine if you judge a youngster on the basis of IPL as it is difficult for a newcomer to showcase his talent in front of a huge crowd.”

Earlier before the commencement of IPL 10, MS Dhoni was replaced by Australia’s Steven Smith as the captain of Rising Pune Supergiant.
