332 players. 73 spots up for grabs. The IPL 2020 Auction is not so big on numbers and time. However, it will come in the year when Twenty20s will dominate. The 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League comes at a time when the World T20 will be played in Australia in October and this will give players the chance to express themselves in the tournament. However, the auction presents a chance for uncapped Indians to make a mark and springboard themselves into the next big stage. With the Under-19 World Cup beginning in January 2020 in South Africa, the younger generation of Indian cricketers will be looking at this auction with interest and opportunity. Uncapped Indians To Dominate There are several players who are in the high Rs 2 crore bracket and some are in the 1.5 to 1 crore bracket.
When it comes to the auction, the chance of a player being fetched from that list is not so frequent. It is the unknown players, the domestic newcomers who grab the eyeballs in the auction. Just ask Varun Chakravarthy, who was an unknown in 2018 and he fetched 8.4 crore in the auction while playing for Kings XI Punjab. In this auction, the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Priyam Garg could hit the jackpot. Both are in the World Cup squad. Jaiswal became the youngest to hit a double ton in List A cricket while Garg also had a good time in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and in the Vijay Hazare. Apart from the domestic teams, local T20 tournaments like the Tamil Nadu Premier League can give players their just reward. R Sai Kishore is one such name touted to make a big mark. The players whose base price are at Rs 20 lakh can go for big money in the auction.
West Indies players to the fore
In the ongoing series between India and West Indies, the Men from the Caribbean have impressed with the likes of Shai Hope, Evin Lewis, Shimron Hetmyer and Kesrick Williams giving some instances of inspiration. The Windies have always been the favorite draws in the IPL Auction and some of them will go for good money. With the purse of the teams slightly higher, Hetmyer, who was let go by Royal Challengers Bangalore due to poor form, might be snapped up by some other team. The auction features five Australians -- Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Chris Lynn, Mitchell Marsh and Glenn Maxwell. The five, along with South African Dale Steyn and Sri Lankan Angelo Mathews, are in the highest bracket of Rs 2 crore.
The World Cup-bound Aussie cricketers had opted out of the 2019 auction but this time they have checked in keeping in mind the T20 World Cup at home in October. While Mitchell Starc has opted out this year, the likes of Maxwell, Cummins, Hazlewood, Lynn are likely to be top draws. Having skipped two years in a row, Cummins might get a good deal.

For far too long, Virat Kohli's RCB have been perenially underachieving with the ball or with the bat. With two bottom-placed finishes in three seasons, 2020 could see Royal Challengers Bangalore make a serious push for the title. On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians will be banking on some smart buys while Delhi Capitals would be determined to add personnel to their side who will carry their good campaign of 2019 forward. Rajasthan Royals will be the other team who might be busy in the auction while on par with Kings XI Punjab, Kolkata Knight Riders will be looking to be busy shopping for players as they look to win back their glory years of 2012 and 2014.
