Jasprit Bumrah had already established himself as one of the best bowlers currently in the world when he took 5/7 in the first Test against West Indies at Antigua. In the second Test, Bumrah enhanced his legendary status by taking 6/16 in nine overs of pure brilliance to reduce West Indies to 87/7 after Hanuma Vihari scored his maiden ton and Ishant Sharma stroked his first fifty to help India end on 416. During the course of his spell, Bumrah achieved a unique feat which only two other Indian bowlers had achieved.

Bumrah became the third Indian bowler after Harbhajan Singh and Irfan Pathan to take a hat-trick in Tests and he became the first bowler to achieve it outside the sub-continent. The right-arm pacer had already started the carnage when he had John Campbell caught for 2 and in his next over, he created history.

Bumrah bowled a good length ball on leg stump and it nipped away sharply, Darren Bravo edged it to KL Rahul in the slips. In the next ball, Bumrah got a full ball to nip back in sharply at pace and Shamarh Brooks was trapped LBW. The third ball witnessed drama. Bumrah got the ball to cut back in again to Roston Chase and India appealed for an LBW. The umpire did not give it and on review, the ball was crashing into leg stump to help Bumrah achieve the hat-trick and enter the history books. He proceeded to end the day with the wickets of Kraigg Brathwaite and Jason Holder.

Before Bumrah, Harbhajan Singh had become the first Indian bowler to take a hat-trick when he achieved the feat against Australia in the Eden Gardens Test in 2001 which is remembered more for VVS Laxman's 281 and his stand of 376 with Rahul Dravid.

Irfan Pathan created history in the 2006 Test against Pakistan in Karachi when he got the wickets of Salman Butt, Younis Khan and Mohammad Yousuf in the very first over of the Test match. Bumrah became the third bowler to take a Test hat-trick in the Caribbean. Jermaine Lawson was the first bowler to take a hat-trick when he took three wickets spread across two innings during the 2003 Test in Barbados.

Barbados was the sight for yet another hat-trick when Matthew Hoggard of England became the second during the 2004 Test against West Indies. Hoggard dismissed Ramnaresh Sarwan, Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Ryan Hinds as England won the Test match by eight wickets.

Thanks to Bumrah's record feat, India are on the cusp of leaving the West Indies without a single loss across all formats.
