Kagiso Rabada and Quinton de Kock were involved in a heated on-field clash during the second session of the Pune Test on day 2.

New Delhi:

Virat Kohli was decimating the South Africa bowlers on day 2 of the Pune Test between India and South Africa. The Indian cricket team skipper piled on the records and shared a partnership in excess of 150 with Ajinkya Rahane and a stand of 200 with Ravindra Jadeja. During the onslaught, the Proteas bowlers wilted and the tensions were visible on the field. The pressure manifested into an ugly spat between Kagiso Rabada, the team's ace pace bowler and Quinton de Kock, the wicketkeeper. The incident took place during the second session when Rabada was bowling to Jadeja.

Jadeja defended a Rabada delivery and the pacer threw the ball in De Kock's direction. Apparently, the South Africa keeper wasn't paying attention to the throw and he fumbled. In the meantime, Jadeja and Kohli sneaked a quick single. Rabada was clearly miffed and gave De Kock a piece of his mind, shouting expletives and telling him to look at the ball. The wicketkeeper then responded aggressively to Rabada, asking him to "be smarter". At the end of the over, De Kock and Rabada had a go at each other once again and that is when Faf du Plessis had to jump in to calm them down.

Kohli continued to notch up milestones after milestones in the Pune Test against South Africa. After notching up his seventh double ton, 19th as skipper and also went past 7000 runs in Tests, he clobbered Dean Elgar over wide long on to notch up his 250 and register his highest individual score in Tests. He went past Sachin Tendulkar's highest individual score of 248 which he made against Bangladesh in 2004. This was Kohli's 50th Test as Indian skipper and this was his ninth 150-plus score as captain, breaking the record set by Sir Don Bradman who had smashed eight. Kohli has scored a century in 11 different venues in India and his 19th century as captain levelled the mark set by Ricky Ponting of Australia.

Kohli is the only skipper in history to have hit seven double centuries as captain, breaking the mark of five set by Brian Lara. This was his sixth double century in India, having smashed 200 against West Indies in North Sound during the 2016 series. During the course of his knock, he also went past 1000 runs in Tests against South Africa.
